Clay's classes combine core work, heat-building movement, deep stretch sequences, mystical poetry, and moving music. Particular attention is given to cultivating an experiential, feeling-awareness of breath and energy, while practicing safe alignment and modifying according to the needs of the individual. Students are asked to breathe much deeper and to move past their reactive inner critic in order to discover their depth of feeling in each shape or movement, opening up to pleasure and curious compassion in long-held poses like bridge and reverse warrior. Clay draws from his foundation of Iyengar, Anusara, Vinyasa Flow, and his more recent studies in Forrest Yoga and Julian Walker's teachings. His training as a psychotherapist also influences and informs his approach to yoga, which is compassionate, playful, exploratory, and supportive.

I've been to countless yoga classes but find myself working my schedule to take Clay's. Each class is an adventure, flavored by his artfulness, low-key intensity, athleticism, soulfulness, and sense of play. He is able to sensitively direct a whole group while attending to each person's needs, integrity, and individuality. And, for certain, he is the best yoga DJ around. Reflective of his eclecticism, he mixes world music, sonic tones, unexpected classics and beats to deepen and delight a yogic practice.

Clay's down to earth (literally) approach and ability to work with all levels is remarkable. I really enjoy the long, complex sequences that always seem to come full circle in a beautifully roundabout way.

Sometimes we are not immediately aware of having received a gift of grace until we see its effects on our lives. As always, in gratitude for what Clay offers.

Clay teaches with great creativity, fluidity, awareness and fun. Being in his class, I find those qualities emerging within my practice and personality.
