Clay's classes combine core work, heat-building movement, deep stretch sequences, mystical poetry, and moving music. Particular attention is given to cultivating an experiential, feeling-awareness of breath and energy, while practicing safe alignment and modifying according to the needs of the individual. Students are asked to breathe much deeper and to move past their reactive inner critic in order to discover their depth of feeling in each shape or movement, opening up to pleasure and curious compassion in long-held poses like bridge and reverse warrior. Clay draws from his foundation of Iyengar, Anusara, Vinyasa Flow, and his more recent studies in Forrest Yoga and Julian Walker's teachings. His training as a psychotherapist also influences and informs his approach to yoga, which is compassionate, playful, exploratory, and supportive.
